Spanish restaurant in Zurich: what Lalín serves, what to order first and how to book

Lalín Tapas & More is a Spanish restaurant at Zentralstrasse 111 in Zurich's Kreis 3, serving tapas to share, paella and rice dishes cooked to order, and Spanish wine from Wednesday to Sunday. You can book a table online in English, and order paella for home delivery from four people.

Key points

What does a Spanish restaurant in Zurich serve?

At Lalín, the menu is built around sharing: tapas, sharing boards, paellas and rice dishes, plus pasta, fish, meat, a kids' menu and desserts. The idea is the one you find in Spain: several plates in the middle of the table, ordered in rounds.

The name comes from Lalín, a town in Galicia, in Spain's north-west. You can taste it in dishes like Pulpo a la gallega, Galician-style octopus with paprika, olive oil and sea salt (small CHF 24, large CHF 32), and the Tarta de Santiago, a Galician almond cake (CHF 8).

What should I order the first time?

Start with three or four classic tapas, add one dish you have never tried, and decide on paella after the first round. A simple first order for two:

That is four tapas for CHF 58, with two bread baskets included. Bread comes with the tapas: one basket for 1–3 tapas, two for 4–6 and three for 7–9; an extra basket costs CHF 2.

If you want to taste widely, the Tapas Variadas (CHF 24, from 2 people) is a selection of small tapas. Our guide on how to order tapas explains the rounds, the portions and the names.

As a rule of thumb, plan two to three tapas per person if tapas are the whole meal, and one to two if you are sharing a paella afterwards.

How much does dinner cost?

Most tapas cost between CHF 12 and CHF 18. Sharing boards cost a little more: the Entremés Ibéricos, hand-carved Ibérico cold cuts, is CHF 28 small or CHF 35 large, and the Bandeja de Quesos with three Spanish cheeses is CHF 22 or CHF 29.

Paellas and rice dishes are listed between CHF 34 and CHF 46, for example the Paella de Marisco (CHF 36 on the menu), the Paella Vegetariana (CHF 34 on the menu) and the house speciality, Arroz con Pato y Foie (CHF 46 on the menu). Several rice dishes are marked "from 2 people".

Desserts cost CHF 7–12: Crema Catalana (CHF 7), Flan Casero (CHF 7) and the warm chocolate Coeur Fondant (CHF 12).

For drinks, a glass of Sangría is CHF 10 and a jug CHF 36, a small draught Estrella Galicia CHF 4 and a glass of Cava CHF 9. A one-litre jug of Zurich tap water, Züri Wasser, costs CHF 4. You can pay in cash, by credit card or with TWINT.

Is the menu in English?

The printed menu is in Spanish and German, with the Spanish dish names you would see in Spain, so you can order a "ración de pulpo" just as you would in Galicia. The website, including the booking form and the delivery shop, is also in English and Spanish.

How do I book a table?

Online, in four steps: party size, date, time and your details. Tables can be booked up to 60 days ahead, and a same-day booking needs at least one hour's notice. The bookable sittings are:

These are booking times, not opening hours. There is a notes field for allergies, a high chair or the occasion, and you can also book by WhatsApp. Reserve your table here.

Can I get Spanish food delivered?

Yes, paella. In the paella delivery shop you choose a paella or rice dish, set the number of people and pay online. Prices are per person, from 4 and up to 20 people per dish, ordered at least 12 hours and at most one week ahead.

The shop currently lists, per person: Arroz Senyoret CHF 35, Paella de Marisco CHF 36, Paella Mixta CHF 39, Arroz Negro CHF 35, Arroz de Bogavante CHF 44 and Arroz con Pato y Foie CHF 46. The shop always shows the current selection and prices.

A seafood paella for four comes to 4 × CHF 36 = CHF 144, plus delivery, which is calculated at checkout. Our guide to paella delivery in Zurich walks through the order step by step, and the paella page explains the styles.

What about groups and events?

Groups of up to 20 book online, and the system seats them at neighbouring tables. From 6 guests there is a deposit of CHF 20 per person, paid on a secure page when booking and deducted in full from the bill. For 10 people that is CHF 200 up front and CHF 200 less at the end.

For more than 20 guests, standing receptions or flying tapas at your office, ask for a quote on the events page.
